Working with models to plan the lighting of a space

Last Wednesday in the lighting workshop taught by Fernando Salas, the students of Interior Design and Product Design could verify the importance of working with models when designing the lighting of a space, since this a quick and effective way to achieve very real spaces through light.

Specifically in the workshop, the students worked with small samples of opaque, translucent, metallic and transparent materials to generate models, on which, later were applied light sources with the mobile as a resource. With this technique, they obtained a multitude of spaces, which have been photographed in each of the different atmospheres obtained.

The following day, Thursday March the 22nd, Salas held a conference based on a tour of his interior works reaching different types of spaces: commercial, such as Roberto Verino’s showroom; ludic, like El Molino; as well as in restoration, housing and ephemeral architectures. He also showed spaces in hotels such as Puerta América and El Gran Hotel Domine in Bilbao. Examples that helped the students to perceive the complexity implicit in the spaces and the integral response that the interior designer has to perform in order to solve and integrate all the elements Involved in the space, especially the technical installations.

In addition, he insisted on the importance of graphic design, since it is a discipline to be taken into account, mainly in commercial spaces.

He also showed some pieces of industrial design, proposing a new way of conceiving furniture, from a more creative attitude.

Finally, Fernando Salas encouraged the students to solve and put passion in the projects they carry out.
