The Algae lamp has been designed and made by Andrea Alemañ Van Cant, a third year student of Product Design de l’Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny d’Alcoi. The concept work involved was the use of durable organic elements for the creation of a luminaire.
Due to the relationship between Andrea and the sea, made her look at the remains of the oceanic posidonia. A marine plant that ends up turned into small spheres of fiber, concentrated on the beaches, thus she decided to experiment with them.
After a long process of trials with different procedures and tools, posidonia ended up being an ideal screen for a lamp whose textures evoke a labyrinthine path of light and shadow.
