Next Wednesday, March the 7th, the exhibition “Women and work in Alcoi – A graphic vision” will be inaugurated at 8:00 pm and organized by Alcoi Industrial with the collaboration of the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny d’Alcoi. To commemorate the International Day of Working Women, this institution has made a selection of photographs, from different local historical backgrounds, through which can be graphically checked the evolution of the role of women in the work world throughout history of Alcoi.
The EASDAlcoi has collaborated with different communication tasks, as is the case of the design of invitations, as well as the supports where the different images can be showed, which are distributed in different thematic areas: professionals, shops and markets, food industry, textiles, paper and leisure. The exhibition will show how women gradually occupied new areas of work such as the stalls of markets, shops, as well as some ovens, candy shops and ice cream parlors. It also highlights the large number of women who were engaged in the industry of the stuffed olives, before mechanization. In short, the exhibition reviews the evolution of women at work in Alcoi.
The exhibition has been sponsored by the City Council of Alcoi and Mutua Levante Foundation where can be visited until March the 28th: Monday to Friday mornings from 10am to 2pm and Monday to Saturday afternoons from 6pm to 9pm.
As a complementary activity to the exhibition, a round table called “Working Woman: Past and Present” will be held on the next Thursday, March the 15th, at 7:30 p.m., with Júlia Company, General Director of IVACE; Sandra Obiol, professor from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Universitat de València and Manuela Pascual, general secretary of CCOO in the area.
