Last week the students of 2nd and 3rd Fashion Design, as well as those of 2nd of Clothing Styling of the Escola d’Art i Superior of Disseny d’Alcoi, could see firsthand in the company Sastrería Cornejo different classic pieces of the scenic clothing, as it is the case of the original dress of Ava Gardner in 55 days in Pekin, the mesh of Charlton Heston in El Cid or the armor made of different materials in Gladiator. This first-person learning is very interesting since the design of costumes for movies or theater is another option available to students who do this type of study, thus expanding their range of possibilities.
In Cornejo Sastrería, founded in 1920, our students learned their work system. Moreover, they could see firsthand each of the departments existing in this company, from the headdress and hats workshop to the skin and setting workshop. In addition, they also learned about the historical and professional career of this company, in order to know each of their steps and what could serve as a guide for our students. Currently, Cornejo is one of the most important costume rental companies in the world where costume designers of international level come to rent and make costumes for their productions, among which are several films awarded with prizes for the best costumes at the Oscars, the Goya, the Caesar and the Bafta.
The students, in addition, could make contact in the Museum of the garment of Madrid with many of the technological contents learned in the lessons thanks to the didactic explanations of the fabrics, history by the route of the clothing and design by the valuation of pieces originals that are there.
