Last week the second graders of Graphic Design of the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny d’Alcoi could learn directly from the techniques used in different works of some contemporary artists, during the visit to current exhibitions in Alcoi.
The first stop was at the Fundación Mutualidad Levante, where they saw firsthand the exhibition “Seres y estares” by the artist Manolo Granado. It includes works carried out between 2016 and 2017 whose theme is mostly the individual and his environment. Our students enjoyed a guided tour where they could learn the different techniques, as the engraving and collage, used by Granado in his works.
The next visit was to “Espais avançats” which is located in the Llotja de Sant Jordi, where there are some proposals which use video art, painting, material installation, ephemeral architectures, as well as conceptual art and digital; as a means of expression. There, the students could see, observe and analyze the examples of an inclusive nature, that is to say, those works which include the space where they have been developed, the attending public and other senses appart from the visual one. As already known, this exhibition has been carried out by some teachers from the EASDAlcoi who have expressly prepared their works for this space.
Finally, the tour ended with the exhibition of the “Capella de l’Antic Asil” to enjoy the expressiveness of the works of Orfeo Soler, in “The words of the lion”. Our students asked questions to the curator of the exhibition, Lucia Romero, who gave the appropriate indications on the influences and concepts of the exposed work. It is mostly formed by a combination of 54 unpublished works and others which show his personal and highly expressive world, through techniques such as drawing, painting and sculpture.
All this knowledge and analysis learnt in the visited exhibitions needs to be acquired by the students, a work in which now they are immersed.
