Haute couture through accessories such as mantillas or hats

Students on 2nd and 3rd year of the Superior Studies of Fashion were able to learn first-hand from fashion accessories specialists of mantillas or hats, an experience that has given them new sources of inspiration, as well as, different work systems, such as the industrial and the artisanal.

On the 16th and 17th our students traveled to Seville to attend a haute couture fabric class and also with different types of lace, both manual and industrial, by Maria Ramos, a specialist in the restoration of mantillas and old garments, as well as in making artisan wedding dresses. From her, students could learn the importance of the work organization according to the phases and the temporality in the custom manufacturing.

Also with Juan Foronda, expert in Manila shawls and blankets, our students learned the differences between artisanal and industrial pieces, both in shawls and mantillas. In addition, they were also explained the protocol and the placement of this garment, to be able to later manipulate and place original pieces.

In addition, they could admire exclusive hats and craft ceremonies in the workshop of “Buffuna Hats“. Moreover, they could learn all the phases of the manufacturing process of this garment, in this case, with the designer of “ISESA-Hnos. Fernández y Roche“, hat factory since 1885.

Finally, this trip in Seville closed with the visit to “Mariano Martín. Bordados artesanales“, a company specializing in virgins vestments and palliums for the steps of Holy Week, where our students could see first hand embroidered with gold and silver on velvet.
