During the week of September 18 to 24 will be held in Alcoi a whole set of activities, promoted by the Department of Tourism, to put in value and spread its modernist heritage. They are organized around the Modernism Week which includes lectures, exhibitions, guided tours, historical recreations and theatrical events, workshops and a modernist fair in the Glorieta. Part of them are dedicated to one of the most outstanding architects of the Alcoyan Modernism, Vicent Pascual, and there are many related to the clothing in modernist society also. The attendants will wear costumes of the time, offering an atmosphere that will return us in the Alcoi of the late nineteenth and early twentieth.
Within the broad program, Joel García Pérez, Professor of History and Theory of Art and Design at EASD Alcoi, will give the conference ‘Modernist or Belle Époque’ on Monday, September 18 at 8:00 p.m. at Long Hall of the Industrial Circle. According to Joel Garcia “an informative approach will be developed to the dress of the era of the Belle Époque and Modernism to analyze how the general characteristics of Modernism, that of being a hinge between the past and modernity and that of being a style of exaltation of the bourgeoisie enriched with industrial development, also develops in the field of clothing. ” The talk seeks to help the revaluation of the modernist heritage of Alcoy since knowing is always the first step to appreciate it precisely.
